Mitchell Caverns

The Mitchell Caverns are a true treasure of the Mojave Preserve, situated high in the Providence Mountains. This cave was used by the Chemehuevi for ceremonial purposes many years ago, and a fossilized ground sloth femur was found by a hearth in the large chamber.

More recently (1934-1954) the cave was developed by Jack and Ida Mitchell and today it is a state park surrounded by a national preserve.
